I was a bit leary about using a laundry service where my laundry would be picked up by random "strangers", taken to their home, and gone through. But given my recent physical health and limitations I had to do something as my laundry was piling up and I was running out of options. I Google searched laundry service in my area and there was Poplin. Of course there were others but after researching and comparing Poplin offered the best price and time frame for what I needed. The fact they also fold and separate the laundry into clear bags was a bonus. I downloaded the app, placed my order, and by 8am the next day my laundry pro was letting me know she would be around to pickup the order between 9:30-10am. I appreciated this as I was worried about leaving my laundry hamper outside for hours but now I had a window of time to get my hamper out. You can follow the progress of your order from the time it's picked up to the moment its delivered and with having the ability to message my laundry pro this was great as I asked my pro if it would be okay to place the laundry inside the foyer instead of outside on the porch. She was more than happy to oblige and I received notice the moment it was delivered and even had a picture. To my surprise, and appreciation, my laundry pro had also left me a Christmas card in my hamper which was very nice given it was the only card I had received. My laundry was perfect and all ready for me to put away without any hassle. Great for those times your washer isn't working

I've used Poplin both recently and back when it was Sudshare, usually when we have a problem with our washing machine. I'm disabled and use a cane to get around, so dragging bags to a laundromat is extremely difficult for me, and this service fills the gap for a reasonable cost. It's one of the few services I've used where the final cost usually turns out to be below the estimated amount, and I've not had any problems with pick-up or delivery. There are a reasonable number of options for things like hang-dry items and choosing a detergent. I'm overall happy with the service. There are only a couple of things to watch out for: one is that if you are very sensitive to perfumes in laundry products, the products currently on the market are so cloying and long-lasting that even if the person washing your clothes uses the scent-free option, you'll likely notice a faint smell from other people's detergents on some of your clothes -- the same thing is true at the laundromat, though. This was noticeable only for a few items, so I presume they were in the first load after someone else's laundry that used scented detergent. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me, and would be difficult for the person doing laundry to avoid, but I felt I should mention it for those who may have allergies or severe sensory sensitivities. The second is that the guidelines for what requires a separate "large item" charge aren't super clear to me, so I'm reluctant to use Poplin for large towels or smaller blankets (that middle ground where they take up most of one laundry load in my own washing machine, but not an entire load), lest I end up with an extra fee I'm not expecting or annoy the person washing my stuff by having my order input "wrong". I feel this could be clarified by offering volume or size examples: for instance, whether the folded item fits in a standard paper grocery bag, or does not exceed specified LxWxH dimensions. Generally I would say this is a good option for situations where you have a broken washer, an illness or injury that makes doing laundry difficult, or just a super busy week when you can't get to it. The price compared favorably with the other laundry services where I live, including options that would require me to drop my stuff off, and Poplin has a lot less nickel-and-diming going on for charges for normal everyday laundry items. Poplin gift cards would also be a great way to help out someone in your life who is overwhelmed or recovering from surgery -- something to consider as an alternative to sending meals for those dealing with medical treatment, deaths in the family, a new baby, unpacking from a recent move, or busy season at work. The fact that it is a no-contact service handled via app also makes it disability-friendly for members of my family who are hard-of-hearing or autistic, and who struggle with phone calls and small talk, which is a nice bonus. #PoplinChangedMyLife -Angela Mazur
